The deadline for re-registering SIM cards has been extended to October 15th by the Communication Authority.
JTL was the only network provider compliant before the last-minute rush to update the information, and its subscribers did not have to modify anything. This is because the network provider collects all necessary information when a new customer receives their SIM card for the first time.
In the last weeks of the process, both Airtel and Telkom made it simple for customers to complete the re-registration process online. This streamlined the process for subscribers who were short on time or preferred the convenience of completing the process online.
The world’s largest mobile network, Safaricom, seems unconcerned, insisting that customers complete the process in person at one of its agents. Until today, this was the situation when subscribers’ time to complete the re-registration has passed. On the other hand, the Communication Authority may have been swayed by the turmoil caused by the significant telco and decided to push the deadline back to October.
